Consistency Test

Soil consistency describes the deformation properties of fine-grained soils. The moisture content of the soil can be most accurately determined in the laboratory by determining the so-called Atterberg limits (liquid limit wL, plastic limit wP) and the moisture content w. The Consistency index IC is then defined by the relation:

Consistency can be expressed by words and also by numbers. The individual consistency names and intervals depend on the specific standard.
