Analysis for Cohesionless Soils
For cohesionless soils the stress exponent is not equal to zero. For layered subsoil the resulting settlement equals to the sum of partial settlements of individual layers:
where: | σor,i | - | vertical component of geostatic stress in the middle of ith layer |
σz,i | - | vertical component of incremental stress (e.g. stress due to structure surcharge) inducing layer compression
ji | - | stress exponent in the ith layer
mi | - | Janbu modulus in the ith layer
hi | - | thickness of the ith layer |
