Changing the Inclination of Dividing Planes

Changing the inclination of dividing planes is applied for Sarma’s method only. It is evident from the figure that the planes dividing individual blocks do not have to be vertical and not even mutually parallel. In the first stage of analysis when the optimization procedure moves points along the slip surface it assumes vertical alignment of dividing planes. To arrive at an even smaller value of the slope stability it is possible to change the mutual alignment of dividing planes. This process is again performed in several runs with a limited value of rotation step and this step is again reduced in the course of optimization. This stage of optimization is terminated once the rotation step drops below the value of 1o and no change of rotation occurred during the last optimization run.
